What type of FireWire card is the Dell Inspiron 8100 equipped with?

From reading the manual and configuration I cannot figure this out?

Is the cable broken - how do I verify that?

It seems that FireWire cables are quite unstable. But how do I figure out exactly what the problem is? I have tested with 2 cables so far (from the same vendor :-( ), and is now awaiting one from Sony.

YES - the cable is broken. The Sony cable works just fine - 2 no-name cables didn't work at all.
